Aquaponic Systems

In recirculating aquaculture systems, the water from fish farming is treated and reused (circulation), which results in a significant reduction in water consumption compared to open systems (e.g. ponds). Aquaponics is a special case of aquaculture, in which the process water is also used to supply plants with nutrients (double use of the water). Aquaponics thus combines the production of fish in an aquaculture unit (fish farming and water treatment) with the hydroponic cultivation of useful plants in a production system.
