In general, most of the fish species that are produced in recirculating aquaculture systems are also suitable for aquaponics. The main drivers of choosing the „right“ fish species for aquaponics are often the best market prices and consumer acceptance within the production area as well as environmental production conditions e.g. cold water fish are more suitable for temperate regions wheras warm water fish are more suitable in tropical or sub-tropical regions due to the lower amount of energy that hast o be put into cooling or heating, respectively.
